Mopar Power Steering Gear - Auto-spinning Correction

Problem:

When car is started, the steering wheel automatically spins (could be either direction)

Probable Cause:

The control valve on top of the gearbox is not centered. When centered the steering wheel will not auto spin

Fix:

Reset the control valve position until auto spinning is eliminated (which may take more than one attempt following these steps)

  1. Loosen two control valve bolts approx ¼ turn (do not fully loosen bolts)

2. With bolts loosened, lightly tap the control valve to move it 1/32” to 1/16” in the opposite direction of autospin (if its auto spinning to left, tap in the direction to turn right.) NOTE: Slight movement of the control valve can make big changes in autospinning

3. Retighten two control valve bolts (13 ft-lbs)

4. DO NOT PUT ARMS BETWEEN STEERING WHEEL SPOKES

Start the car and check for autospin

Repeat as required to stop autospin
